Fair Trade School
This year, our school TNMS Lembach finally became a Fair-Trade school - but what is Fair Trade?
Fair Trade is an organisation that helps people in over 70 countries to have a better life. They pay a higher wage so the workers can feed their families, finance school and kids don’t have to work anymore. Child labour is a serious problem in poor countries. Children are forced to work to earn money for their family.
Nobody deserves a life with constant worries about food or money, so Fair Trade helps. If you’re in the supermarket look out for Fair Trade products like tea, coffee, chocolate, honey, nuts, oil, fruit, vegetables and a lot of other things. Every cent could save lives!
Our school also wanted to help. We started with little steps and now we fulfil all five criteria for the Fair Trade certificate. On parents’ evening and during carnival there was a Fair Trade sale with bananas, chocolate and other bits. We also have a coffee/hot chocolate vending machine for teachers and students.
I think everybody is happy with the products, as well as helping people in need. In the future, I hope more schools become a Fair Trade school because it’s a brilliant concept and a necessary step to improve lives.
